I like to say that my existence in itself is credited to the Labrador Retriever. My parents met in 1983, it was love at first sight on my mothers part. Not for my father that is, but for his black lab “Zach”. Zach was my fathers beloved American Field lab hunting companion that followed him into adulthood. My mother first met Zach when she was working on a job with my father, and Zach was tagging along. So begins one of the greatest love stories ever told (in my opinion at least). My mother, infatuated with Zach, grew to love my father as well. They moved to a quiet little spot on Onway Lake in southern New Hampshire and were later married in 1990. Their family grew to add “Mariah” a beautiful companion for Zach. Mariah and Zach had several litters my parents raised prior to my birth. Offspring of Zach and Mariah, “Max “ and “Little Bear” also became a part of their family.
Zach passed away in 1988 at 7 years old after suffering from complications from an injury. While I never got the chance to meet him, his legacy lives on in my memory and the tales that my father still fondly shares.
I have never known life without a black lab and have inherited my mothers passion and love for animals. Flash forward to almost 35 years after my parents met, and I got Onyx - my own first dog and my companion into adulthood. Raven was selected as a mate for him with the hope of following in my parents footsteps of raising and preserving the breed I was raised to love.
My focus and interest lies in English lines, their different build and more laid back temperament, willing to live life at a slower speed than the American Field lines my parents so fondly loved and raised. When I got Onyx I was an art student at a local institute (another thing I inherited from my mother). I soon began to realize that my real passion was with animals, rather than a paintbrush. I switched paths and got into the animal industry, my journey took me through many facets of the dog world. I paved my path with jobs in grooming, training and dog handling. My love for purebred dogs grew every step of the way. My focus evolved to veterinary medicine which led me to my current job in emergency vet med. My role as an Emergency Technician has rendered a strong emphasis on the health of our breeding program.
Our main focus is on health, temperament, and intelligence in order to preserve the breed the world has come to love.
